What is the LEAF STEM Challenge?
LEAF stands for Lindbergh Electric Aircraft Flight.   The LEAF STEM Challenge a real-world design challenge geared for students in grades 9-12. In this inquiry-based project, students are challenged to design, build and fly an electric aircraft that will carry out a specific task.  You can learn more about the LEAF STEM Challenge here and read this year's game rules here.

Who can participate?
We welcome the participation of any students- formal or informal- in middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12).  Younger students may still participate, but will compete in the middle school grade band.

How do I get started?
Check out our Resources page!  It contains all kinds of materials- most of them free- to help you get started.  Sign up for our newsletter too so that you can attend our webinars or annual summer coaches workshop.

How much money do I need for this project?
The LEAF STEM Challenge is a low-cost way to teach aerospace and engineering design.  Each airplane costs around $12.  The flight circle and optional curriculum can be ordered here.

Where can I find funding for this project?
Even though this project is low-cost, funding may be an issue and we encourage you to check with local organizations for available funding.  Head over to our Get Funding page for help too!

How can I learn more about the LEAF STEM Challenge?
First, sign up for the newsletter so that you can stay informed.  Then, attend our annual summer workshop where you can learn more about this year's game and design, build and fly your own electric aircraft!  If you can't attend in person, sign up for one of our periodic webinars.

Can I register for the Coaches Workshop with a Purchase Order?
Yes!  We are happy accept purchase orders for schools and organizations wanting to register 3 or more coaches for the annual workshop.  Contact us to make arrangements.

Can I register teams for the Fly-Off event with a Purchase Order?
Of course!  We are happy to accept purchase orders for schools and organizations wanting to register 5 or more teams.  Click here for more information.

How can I register more than one team for the Fly-Off event?
Our registration system through Constant Contact requires a unique email address for each registration/team, so in order to register more than one team, you'll need more than one email address.  For the majority of us who don't have 10 emails, we have a workaround.
